If you balance the carbs first, then adjust the mixture which as you say
will increase the idle speed you now have un-balanced carbs again. I'd go
the other way round.

Mike,balancing
The only two screws in question is the big one (idle speed) and the little
one (mixture).
The first adjustment is to adjust the big ones so that you balance each
cylinder. You want each cylinder to work the same. You do this by
the idle speed. I would recommend that you use a carb stick to do this.mixture
Once you have balanced the carbs and set the idle speed that you want then
you go to each cylinder and turn the little screw. In will lean the
and out will richen it. The idea is that when you hit the best mixture the5
engine rpm's will increase slightly. It is important that you wait approx
seconds between turns as to let the engine adjust to the new setup. What Iat
do is go to either end of the turns where I feel the engine start to run
off. Then I narrow in the range till I get it just about right.
Once everything is set you can adjust your idle by turning the screws the
same amount (in for increased idle and out for a decrease). I would also
recommend that you take your bike out for a good run and then have a look
the plugs. They should be the same colour....tan.yesterday.
While I am on that subject....I replaced the o rings on my choke
I'm not sure if it will make a difference but the ones that were in thereand
were quite old and worn. I figure that old ones might richen the mixture
be causing your problems.
Sorry about the long winded post.
Let em know how it all works out....IanThank you to all who replied to my carb screws
question. So after I take the screws out to replace
the o-rings, how do I re-adjust the mixture? And the
only control idle air mixture, right?
