I think your fouled plugs are linked to your low compression. Bike probably
needs top end overhaul. Sounds like the plating's come off the bores.

Subject: a clean-burning oil?
Hello; After the first tune-up on my '71 Ambassador,it was revealed that I was getting some "oiling" into the port-side cylinder, compression 125lbs. Mechanic showed me the plug was running more foul than the right cyl.He then installed a plug one heat range hotter to that side.( BP6E7). My right cylinder is 131 lb.& the exhaust pressure coming from that side |
detectably snappier than the left during idle & throttle-blipping. Bike runs OK, if a little lumpy at lower rpm., occasionally stumbling into a stall if I let the revs drop when well-heated at an intersection. My question is (are): I am also using a graphite based oil additive which I've been happy with |
my old Subaru, but maybe I shouldn't if I've got some burning oil in left cyl. With more suspended solids in the lubricant, maybe I'm plating crap onto the electrodes faster than I need to be. Has anyone a clean-burning (oxymoron) oil to recommend to minimize oil-fouling of a plug? Any other suggestions to keep plugs cleaner longer? I'm considering that the bike may need a small to medium trip to the hospital this winter for top-end work like rings/valve- guides, examine pistons etc. Even with my relatively minor problem stated, this motorcycle blasts along nicely on the highway... much surprising 2 friends of mine with newer more expensive riding-iron. in truth they are both a bit perturbed that my |
