Tim,
I've been using a chain-ViceGrip to remove and tighten the exhaust nuts
on my Eldo. The chain grips the entire nut for even tension. You have
to position the chain so that it doesn't rub against the cylinder head
but it works great. I also replaced the original nuts with the 'new'
design from MI - there is a lock ring to keep it in place.
On the old nuts, I used some LocTite (doesn't need heat to remove)
which worked well to keep them from twisting off; just enough
resistance. I don't use it with the new nuts.

Any ideas on a good tool to use to remove the nuts on the Eldo exhaust header pipes? I know you can get one from many Guzzi sources, but wondered if there would be something I may already have that could be used successfully. I have heard that the original tool needed to be used with caution, as it would slip. Also, is the safety wire idea good enough, or is there something else that should be done to prevent the backing out? Thanks, Tim 1973 Eldo |
