Still looking for my firsty Guzzi. This morning I looked at a stock 1972 police ambassador. It looks complete except for the rear crashbars. It seemed to be in good condition. 17,000 original miles, no rust to speak of, excellent paint, good seat. There was no battery as it has been sitting for two years. So, I couldn't listen to the engine or do any checks that I could do if it were running. The owner says it was running fine when he put it in storage. After some coaxing, he told e that the front forks needed to be redone and the brakes needed to be taken apart and cleaned. It has had fuel and oil sitting in it for 2 years, so I don't know what that entails as far as getting it road ready. According to the owner, that is all it needs, but without being able to start it up and hear it run, I'm worried. He won't take less than $3000 for it and when I asked him if I could bring a mechanic out to look at it, he said he didn't have any more time to waste, that the bike is not where he lives, its hard for him to make the time to get to the storage, etc., and that there is nothing a mechanic could look at that I didn't already (I am pretty much a novice, but I know some basics to look for when the bike is running) My question is, should I bother with this bike for $3000, or let it go and keep looking. To me it seems like a lot to pay for a bike that isn't running, but I'm not sure of the worth of these bikes. I need advice!!! Thanks. |
You're right, that is a lot to pay for something not running. I would
run away from this guy, as he sounds less than honest to me. If
he really wants to sell the bike, he'll flex a bit. BTW, you can find
much better deals in the MGNOC classifieds. Hope you're a
member.
