Must be gremlins! I have learned to adjust my front brakes carefully as
depicted in Guzziology, one thing that came to mind, is the first thing y=
ou
should do is lossen the front axle, spin the wheel and slam on the brakes=
, Then
tighten the axle while holding the brake on. The scary thing is, there H=
AS to
be a reason why it froze up, I would check your bearings for play and you=
r axle
for straightness. Maybe the third time you just happened to get things in=
a
workable position.=20

Martin,
Got it resolved. I couldn't understand why it behaved like this, and s=
don't because I didn't modify anything other than take the wheel off an=d put
it back on the same way it came off, and it was fine when I took it off=. In
answer to your questions, I didn't take the levers or the linkage rod o=ff. I
didn't adjust or alter the adjusting rod in any way. When I pulled the=wheel
for the third time, I checked the cams and both sat in the same positio=n.
Baffling to me, but after re-mounting the wheel for the third time with=the
same problem, I followed the advice of a lister and took the linkage ro=d off,
adjusted the leading shoe, installed the rod and adjusted the trailing =shoe
the same way, and the brakes were fine. Still don't know how they got =out of
adjustment, since I didn't modify anything, but they are fine now. Tha=nks for
your help.in a
