So, do we need headguards to protect the fins incase of accident if our bikes don't have the big crashbars? Will the ones that Nolan mentioned on the mgcl fit on all round fin engines??? |

It is considered by many that the "fin guards" be they tube or billet alloy,
are at best to prevent damage in case of a tipover. While I know of people
who have saved damage to plugs/fins/heads when going down at speed, I also
know of others where the guards did little, and in a couple cases where
alloy guards actually casued further damage by breaking off the fasteners or
stripping the bolt holes, as well as busting some upper fins due to the fin
guards not "giving". In those instances they also had damage to the valve
covers themselves, breaking the lower mounting "tabs".
I haven't been able to figure out which ones Nolan was referring to, but the
common tube type fin guards sold by various shops will fit any round fin
mill. These are the ones that surround both ends and the bottom of the valve
cover. They also come in black.
