My 69 Ambo doesn't have the plate but the serial number is stamped into the steering head. I don't think they started putting plates on the bikes till 1970. My 1970 Ambo has |
VIN plate. Likely it had something to do with the US Government requiring it starting that year. I believe that the number on the steering head and the engine should match (mine do on my 69) but someone else sent me their serial numbers (for |
V700) and the numbers didn't match up either. Likely some strange things went on back in those days. The serial number on the engine should be stamped on the left hand side |
sitting on the bike) just above the oil fill plug. Let me know what it |
Hopefully the serial number on the title will match with the serial number on the engine. That way you shouldn't have too much trouble if you try to sell the bike in the future. I am posting this reply to the list so that we might get some feedback |
other Loopframe owners. Thanks for the bandwidth. Ian Adkins Ian I don't know if you received my earlier post re: my 68 V700 but I just went out to check for a man. date since the titled year doesn't always reflect reality, and I was unable to find a VIN plate, where is it supposed to be located? Also where would I find the motor ser. no.?? I did see stamped on the right side of the steering head tube " MOTO GUZZI *2261* ". This surprised me since I had never checked For the stamped no. to make sure it matched the no. on the Title, that no. is " 2543" . I've had this bike since 1986, but never done anything with it. It has only 4,700 miles, white w/ fiberglass bar mounted fairing and metal saddlebags. Were the frame and eng nos. as a matter of "RULE" supposed to match??? ___________________________________________________________ T O P I C A The Email You Want.http://www.topica.com/t/16 Newsletters, Tips and Discussions on Your Favorite Topics |
