John,
Joe Kenny told me that he has replaced bearings in a couple of loop
generators, probably Bosch. You might try asking him.

Ted: Since the weather's been so nice here in Northeastern Ohio, I've parked my car and have been riding the Ambo everywhere for the last 2 weeks. I've noticed what sounds like a dry bearing going south coming from the front of the generator, kind of a squeeky squealy rolly noise, only after the engine's warmed up, and it has concerned me also. The generator bearings on my wife's Ambo seized up several years ago among much squealing and smoke. I cut what was left of the belt off and made it home easily on the sparks made by the battery. Now I can't remember if you can get to the front bearing to lube it, which would probably quiet it down. Has anyone been able to do this? As an aside, tightening the belt too much will put an additional side load on the gen bearing and hasten its demise. Rick mentioned taking off the belt and see what happens, great idea. Warm up the bike first if that's when the noise starts. Turn the generator by hand and see what that feels/sounds like. John Prusnek
