Joe:

It's a joke.

All these wankers around here put on those Sigma bike computers and
then trot them out as proof of how fast their bikes are.

One day, we all took a ride to the WA Guzzi breakfast. Along the way is
a really twisty road, on which I usually tell the V11 Sport guys to go
on ahead. (I would hate the idea that I slowed someone down on this
road, so I just do it as a matter of course.) Well, on the way back,
they all said, "No, you lead."

So, I did. I put the hammer down and rode really hard. When I got to
the end of the road, there was no one behind me. I lit up a smoke and
was halfway through it before the first guy, on a Sport 1100, pulled
in. Then came a V11 LeMans, a V11 Sport, a Honda St 1100, and so on.

When we got back, I went to have a beer with a couple of the other
fellers. That's when I looked at my Sigma. It said, "max speed 141.7
mph." I know there's no way in hell it'll go that fast, but if they can
trot out their Sigmas, so can I. So I have been ever since. It's been
about 5 months, and I still haven't re-set the max-speed capture on it.

Seriously, some of them are starting to believe it's true, I kid you
not!

Hi Greg,
That was a great report - felt like I was there with
you...well maybe in my dreams! Can't say I'm skilled to the point of
being comfortable drifting my tires, especially on a loop! Sounds like
you had a great weekend, perhaps better than those who attended the
Duck
gathering...I mean VMD. (just kidding guys)

I gotta ask...how do you get your Eldorado to go 140+ mph?
That is probably above terminal speed on my bike if I dropped it out of
an airplane at 30,000 ft. I did the math, figuring a 120/90 x 18 rear
tire, and standard Eldo gearing (4.284 overall, from Guzziology), and
at
8000rpm the formula yields 130.49 mph. I did it again using a Convert
rear drive (3.778)at 7000 rpm and got 139.8 mph - that might be it. But
even with the gears, you need some serious horsepower/torque to push
these barn doors that fast, more than I would think is possible through
a pair of 29mm VHBs & small valve round barrel heads, and 1 3/8" header
pipes. You got a blower on that thang?
