I set my idle at 1100 rpm. The only thing you get going lower than that
is more of a Harley-like idle and even lower hot oil pressure at idle.
Why do it?

Thanks for all the advise guys. I am looking at all of it. Just this one little niggle ( other than sometimes the starter doesn't engage and it takes a couple button pushes. I can live with that but not if its at every stop light!). Really, other than dying at stops the bike runs great. Mechanically it is sound. Maybe some more tidbits will help. The bike was basically rebuilt 500 miles ago by Larry at GT Motors in Lansing. I have to put my faith in his work until I can prove otherwise (yeah I know things can be forgotten or change in 500 miles, loosen, etc. but I gotta start somewhere). Afterall he knows and has more experience than me. Work was done on behalf of the PO, not me. From the paperwork: Good guides. Repaired seats. Ground valves. New cyclinders, pistons, pins, retainers. Apparently new seals everywhere (I have no visible leaks). Cleaned final drive. New seals, gaskets, washers. New clutch plates. Replaced pins in shifting mechanism. Flushed engine crank case breather. Disassembled carbs and installed missing o-rings on high idle/choke jets. Noticed engine running mostly on RH side. Maybe weights hanging up slightly but runs ok. Corrected choke mechanism. New rotor is listed in the parts and labor. Also new cables, new throttle slides, new throttle springs. The PO did tell me he had the carbs re-synched by Larry before I bought it. I assume they are fine. I don't hear the seperate clicks as has been described by others when out of synch. And it runs good other than the stops. Anything jump out at you guys??? Also, bikes starts and runs fine with the enrichner open. Dying-at-stops doesn't start until after the bike has warmed up and I've turned the enrichner off. I wouldn't call that a hot condition, not like all day riding. Nor has the weather been hot. Once warmed up I have not noticed a jump in idle and then falling off. In my ignorant opinion the idle speed is just too low. That is why I asked about not having the throttle return all the way. Bike does not die if I idle it at 1000 RPM by controlling the idle with the throttle grip. With my external tach connected (clip on coil, clip to earth) it is below 800 when it dies (throttle returned back all the way.) Not positive, but I think it won't die if I maintain 800-900 RPM. I'm just sure of the 1000 RPM's becasue that's where I had it when trying to adjust the idle myself. Hard to read the idle spead before it dies becasue it doesn't idle long so its tough to read. Clutch play is about 2mm. Checked today. the clutch not releasing has crossed my mind, but I didn't know how to explain it as well as you guys did. It will die in neutral or with the clutch in, doesn't seem to matter. Have to give it gas either way. At a stop with the cluth in, if I rev it the bike doesn't move forward, don't know if that means anything. Nor if I put the bike in neutral. By the way, no troubles finding neutral. I don't fully understand yet how to check the throw out, so I haven't checked that yet. Hoping the manual will shed some light before I get to it. Sorry for being long winded, just thought I would address everyone's thoughts in one email. Thanks for all your help, -AJ Greg Bender wrote:
