Doesn't the lock have the # on it? You just tell them that # and they can make the key. No need to send in lock assy. Got one for an SP1000 gas tank that way. Had only 1 key for the Eldo so got a spare blank from Key-men and had a local hardware store cut it. Web site even tells you what # range each key blank covers.

The Fiamms came with some longer chromed steel brackets. But, they were
a little too long for what I wanted and were a little flimsy. The
brackets I'm making now will be painted mild steel. Charlie, I think
you'll be in much better shape with the angle "iron".

below the top crash front crash bar mount using the standard 8mm bolt.
The engine vibration was too much for the aluminum and one of my

I'll need to use regular mild steel or stainless.

Charlie, did you use stainless for your brackets on Sophia?

My thinking is that a bit of flexing via the "leaf spring" type brackets
may prevent my little alum. angle brackets from cracking. Kept the holes
very close together (so close in fact one bolt head had to be ground
nearly to half size to clear the other) in an effort to keep any stress
centered in the "beefiest" area of the alum. angle. If they fail, I'll
remake them in stainless. Sophia (even with one injured cylinder) was
lots smoother than the '69 for some reason. From time to time I would
watch and lightly touch the horns to try and get an idea of how much
they vibrate and they don't seem to very much. The Hellas are pretty
heavy which might help dampen the vibes some also. Time will tell...

Ted,

It's just a hole thru the plunger inside. No special release valve or
anything that fancy. Just a plunger, spring and the outside vent plug
for
attaching a hose to.

Hi Ted,
No, it doesn't have any one-way valve or anything else inside. If you
have the type with the hose barb on it, just attach a piece of hose
about 1' long to it and run it up under the seat and attach it to a
frame tube or such. The hose will serve to keep the lube in and any
foreign matter (except maybe a very small, very determined bug) out.
cheers,

Not going to start on the '70 Ambo project for a few weeks yet, but
wanted to "get my ducks in row" for it. So, a few questions:

1. Need keys for the ignition switch. Have some key blanks I bought at
VMD last year but have yet to find a good local locksmith to cut them.
Did I remember a post about "Keymen" (think that's their name) cutting
keys for locks with none? Any other sources welcome also. Could also
just use the new switch I didn't use on the '69, I guess. But would like
to use as many of the parts that came with the bike as possible.
2. Have a little light rust inside the gas tank and on the frame in
several areas. What to use (won't be repainting the frame)? Just want to
remove (or convert) the rust and prevent it's return. Naval jelly? Or?
Anyone used the product Rustol from Sudco in a tank? Any other
suggestions welcome. Thanks y'all,

wanted to "get my ducks in row" for it.

On my truck list most swear by POR for tank cleaning/repair. The other
is using phosphoric acid. This converts rust to iron phosphate which is
neutral. I personally like this route, but haven't figured out where to
buy it.

HTH,

-AJ

Charlie

*** I swished Rustol around in my tank for 3 weeks, with chains inside
etc. I was not happy and purchased some tank cleaner from Yamaha for
$12.00. Worked like a charm. A second bottle that comes with it
seals/neutralizes.
All Yam-me shops have it.

It's a quality tire and has never given me any "exciting" moments. it
has half the tread of a normal rear tire and therefore half the
lifespan. I have always had a second modern Guzzi while running these
tires. My speedometer runs backwards so I can't give you a milage #.
6K would be my guess based on oil changes.

In reply to my inquiry about cutting keys for my o.e. switch and locks, I
received this:

I'm sorry, but if you need that service, try a local locksmith. That's
what they're for. We can cut keys, but no longer work with the locks
themselves.

Kinda' snippy in tone. Guess I'll redouble my efforts to find a good
locksmith locally. Might help that I have blanks now. Cheers,

Get rid of the rust! What for? It adds to the character and gives a great
patina. Just clear coat over it. :)

Thanks guys. I guess mine really was plugged up and whatever
shot out of it deserves to be lost in the corner of my garage.
Now I need to get a vent hose. Something I didn't need before
since I had a piece of crap keeping everything in for me.

 Hi Ted,
No, it doesn't have any one-way valve or anything else inside.
If you
have the type with the hose barb on it, just attach a piece of
hose
about 1' long to it and run it up under the seat and attach it
to a
frame tube or such. The hose will serve to keep the lube in
and any
foreign matter (except maybe a very small, very determined
bug) out.
cheers,
