I have seen several instances where prior owners have attempted to stop
leaking at the breather by pounding in a welch plug or a bit of solder
to plug the hole. This may have been the case with yours, and you just
blew that out. Guzzi owners do the weirdest things sometimes.
I just had one come in Saturday that has one of those external
leafspring thingies to act as a shift-return spring. It's been on there
for years by the look of it. He wants me to shim the transmission. I
hope that chunks of the broken return spring didn't raise too much
havoc in there. It's a beauty of a machine otherwise. Good guy, too. He
wants it fixed up right so he can give it to his grandson in a few
years. That grandson's a lucky boy.
