Ted,
I tested the "new & improved" wiring on the bike and it seemed to do the
trick. As I'm sure you remember..... The starter relay never actually
worked. When the battery would get low in the shovel, the starter would
engage, but not seem to have enough energy separate the starter gears.
This in turn would create a HUGE draw on the battery, heat the wires,
and if I was not quick enough with the wrench, melt the cables &
sometimes the battery. This made me install a starter relay. The relay
never did as it was supposed to, actually it did nothing... the bike
would still do the same thing when the battery was low. A few nights ago
I was going through the lights, ect. using a low battery, 10.some volts.
I hit the starter button and clickitty click click!. OH such a SWEEET
SOUND! Bet you never thought you'd see a guy so happy to have a dead
battery!....
Anyways the fix, as suggested by a pal o' mine was to up the wire gauge.
This I did, couldn't hurt right? I replaced what was prolly 12-14 ga.
wire running from the power to the realy & from the relay to the olenoid
with 10ga., I also upped the gauge from the battery to the power "dist.
block" to a chunky 8ga(I think). This is where all power starts to get
sorted..anyways, it worked, maybe something along the same lines with
the loop? Did you fix it already? If so what happened?
Kev

Yeah, nice writeup. Let me know if that fixes your problem, that could
be
it. I've noticed lots of electrical things getting hot on the bike...
Thanks
