Hi Tom:
On the loop joint they will only go in one way as only one end is machined
to fit the carrier bearing. I don't know if this is the case w/ the G5 unit.
As I wrote yesterday, I've seen evidence of the u joint spinning inside a
perfectly free carrier bearing. This can generate heat which could cause
the greese to loose it's ability to lubricate. It will also wear the u
joint yoke.
There are manufacturing tolerances on everything so there will be
variations, albiet minor ones, on these parts.
To tear it apart, well that's your call.

All this talk has me wondering.
I just replaced the ujoint in my G5. It was a little tough to knock out
of the swing arm it was in, but slid easily into the carrier bearing in
the swing arm I am using(original).
Soooo, is my carrier bearing worn?
Did I put the uj in backwards?
Should I pull it apart and put some goopuckey on it?(loctite),and,
why shouldn't the uj be a slip fit into the carrier bearing?
Thanks...
