Spent time wrenching the Ambo yesterday. Test drive has shown night and
day difference in the front brake, she actually can stop now with just
the front brake! Nice. I removed the tank and adjusted the throttle
cable and choke cable to get the slop out at the handle bar end. While
the tank was off, I noticed the metal centers on the new tank bushings
were not flat (thanx Mark E for telling me to check that!) so I filed
them down smooth and flat. Turns out that was exactly why the tank
tilted towards the left when I would tighten down the bolts. She is
nice and straight now.
As for carbs, I seem to have gotten everything adjusted and tuned now,
she seems to run nice and idle well, even when super hot. Only thing I
noticed on the stix was I got the merc levels even when at idle, blip
the throttle they now move simultaneously, but if I hold the throttle at
say 2000-3000 RPM's, it seems that the left cylinder wants to work
harder - that is, the merc level in the carb stix is lower than the
right. Also noticed that the right and left cylinder recover at
different rates - when I blip the throttle or hold it on then let go,
each merc level drops back down at different rates but balances out to
equal again at idle. I've got the mixture screws set, so I'm guessing,
like Mark E said, that I'll never get them perfect because each side is
not in the same identical condition due to carbon, wear, etc.... Think
it's as good as it will get.
For the battery question, I had the Ambo idleing quite a long time when
I was tuning the carbs, and when I shut her down and tried to restart,
the battery was low, crank, crank, waaa, waaa. I let her sit for a few
minutes, then she cranked OK and started. Is this normal or am I
looking at a battery replacement?
