I doubt it was a regulation. Norton kept the shift on the "correct" side until the 1975 model. They might have done it for the law, as in LAPD. Didn't the big Harleys of the day shift on the left?

Probably was a combination of USDOT regulations and customer request. I believe all of the V700s and "A" series Ambos had left foot brake stock.
