It does share one idiosynchrasy with the EV. Downshifting into first from neutral at a stop - sometimes I have to hold the shift lever down and release the clutch just a bit before they "clunk" into first. Doesn't seem to hurt anything - seems to be a "character" issue - but I'm curious about what causes this? |
The sliding gears in the Guzzi transmission mate through a meshing of
three hideously great "dogs" on their contact faces. Sometimes, the
dogs of the sliding gear come face-to-face with the dogs on the
stationary gear. Nobody moves in this standoff. It will never go into
gear. By applying a little clutch drag, you get one gear to rotate
slightly and it allows to the dogs of the slider to fall into the
recesses of the stationary.
