Alan,
My 2 cents: this is anecdotal at best, but I noticed significant
reduction in rear drive fluid level along with an increase in tranny
fluid level after a series of long 2 up rides on my Ambo with stock
shocks (set to max preload). Total weight of about 370 lbs between me
and passenger. On some of those rides we had another 30+ pounds of gear
in side bags or out the back on a rack. So with about 400 lbs on the
bike I experienced rear drive fluid migration.
Now, was it strictly due to the load? I can't be certain, but what I do
know is that the cost of a replacing my rear drive would have gone a
long ways toward the purchase of longer/newer/better rear shocks.

Guzzoids, Wanted to replace stock 12.5" rear shocks on my '72 Eldo. Progressive seems to be the answer, but they recommend a 13" shock. I'm reluctant to make the bike any taller, but I understand there is a downside to using 12"ers (fluid running from trans. to rear drive?). And just how difficult would it be to replace fork stock springs with some of those new progressive winds? Any thoughts/recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks, Alan P. Daytona |
