HAH! On the way home from the '83 National in Kansas, my Eldo developed
this hideous racket at a certain rpm, neutral throttle. I thought the
transmission was about to disembowel itself. I stressed and worried for
500 miles trying to feel for the diagnosis. Somewhere in Wyoming I
reached down between the left cylinder and the tank and pressed on teh
plastic gen cover. Instantly went quiet. We pulled over and found a
long crack in the plastic. Vibration was running the two bits together
like a crickets wings. I grabbed some huge pliars and just ripped the
thing in half right there. The bits are somewhere along the highway
still. I eventually sold the bike after running about 15 more years
(and 75K more miles) with NO COVER.
