Thanks to everyone who responded. I like the Red Wing idea - couldn't
find the 993, but there's plenty of other styles to choose from that
might be even better. Maybe I can "kill two (three?) birds with one
stone" and find a pair that is cooler in the summer, waterproof and
comfortable enough to wear all day at work. It sure would be nice to not
have to carry shoes to change into every morning at work! Will check
with a local dealer soon. Thanks y'all!

I have something good to say about Red Wing boots. I had a pair that I
used riding AND on my cattle farm. I oiled them often and they were
often in rain, mud and cow manure. I had them 9 years and the soles
cracked. I took them back to the store where I purchased them and the
guy said he would have to send them in for an opinion as to what they
would do with them. I had then 9 YEARS.....THEY GAVE ME A NEW PAIR!

I do not think happens with many shoe companies. It may not happen with

them again, but they took care of me!

My choice is Red Wing Boots.. After 40+ years of wearing engineer boots

and cow pasture pumps I decided to go with a "motorcycle" boot. Ron
Ayres, author of Going the Extra Mile recommended the Red Wing 1229.
