Took a closer look at my shift linkage and now know why it is a bear
getting the beast into 1st gear with my single arm shifter. The linkage
is as sloppy as sloppy can be. There is play where the bottom bracket
connects to the linkage arm, and the top of the linkage arm is even more
sloppy where it connects to the shifter arm that is connected to the
tranny. I pulled the arm with linkage off the tranny and disconnected
it from the lower arm and I can see how the holes in the linkage have
gotten a bit oblong. BTW, there are bolts holding this all together, no
clevis pins.
Greg Bender, I saw your site and you say you chose the option to
"Replace the entire setup with Heim joints (also known as ball end
joints). I chose this approach because it required the least amount of
work and promised the tightest joints over the long-haul." How do these
get installed? Do you need to drill out the holes? How is it easier
than drilling out the holes for larger clevis pins?
