Bob,
For those of us who have been around the various Guzzi Lists long enough,
say back to 1997, there was a continuing dispute on the other Guzzi List
some years ago regarding the subject of electronic ignitions vs points that
it escalated into such nasty warfare between the two camps that ultimately
it led to perhaps the best technical lister on that list at the time
leaving, never to return, and a guy from the other camp who was removed
forever from the list. So, Bob, thanks for bringing this up again! ;-)
Just kidding, although the story about the other list is true.

This is a superficial commentary on the subject, but electronic ignitions
are generally trouble-free and maintenance free. Good, well designed ones,
at least. Every car being currently manufactured has them, right? Cars
aren't being found dead alongside the road with regularity with failed
electronic ignitions. I have had Dynas on two motorcycles, a Japanese
sportbike and my LeMans IV, and neither ever gave me one second of problems.
My points bikes need regular maintenance.....lubrication and adjustment.

However, when the points need maintenance on the road, it's something we can
all do to keep the bike running. When the electronic ignition fails, call a
flatbed. Or, carry your points system with you to re-install in the event
of such an occurrence.
Take yer pick.
Dennis

David, Maybe I missed a thread on this topic but I though electronic
ignition was supposed to be more reliable than points. What happened? Bob
