Subject: Voltage Regulator (VR) Sparking

I wonder if you could put a condenser on the terminal of the VR that
connects to the point set that are sparking. Lead to the terminal; case
to ground. This may dampen out the sparks keeping the points in better
shape, just like what happens under your distributor cap. Just a
thought...

My regulator is sparking as this set of contacts opens and closes and I want to make sure this is abnormal or normal before I do anything else. I know this set opens and closes to regulate the voltage/current in the circuit at a fast rate, but does a good system produce the visual spark. I did this at night with the lights off and reved the engine up and down to see the results. Any feedback greatly appreciated. BOB |
