I had to go across the bay to my dentist in Palo Alto today. It was a
nice afternoon, so I thought I'd stop and take a few pictures along the
way. Go back to your memmories of the loopframe scenes in "Harold and
Maude".
First scene. Maude has stolen an El Camino or Ranchero and is
transporting the sickly stolen tree. Our loopframe cop (played by Tom
Skerritt who is listed in the credits as M. Borman????) does a chase and
stop. Maude takes off across the road and does a 720 around the loop
while Tom manages to drop the loop on its shifter side in the middle of
the road on the double stripe. Here is the location of the spinout 720:

Sorry about the new bridge in the background. More on that later. But
off in the distance you can clearly see the nearground hills of our
Coyote Hills Regional Park and the farground hills of our inland coastal
range. IIRC, the movie was shot on a similarly partly cloudy day like
today. Assuredly it was also in the winter, like today, as everything
around here is brown well before summer.
Second scene. Later in the day, Maude returns to the same location and
waves at our loopframe cop as she zooms by. He takes off in hot pursuit
and pulls her over. While he's inspecting the stolen pickup, Maude
steals his loopframe (and takes off in fine style I might add).
Remember the results as he fired his gun at her deparure? Here is the
location where she was pulled over and the scene of the theft:

No, I don't have a loopframe any longer. My EV looks just fine sitting
there. The old Dumbarton Bridge and causeway were a two-lane affair.
Many a headon took place there. My brother (unharmed) was the victim of
the last recorded headon before the old bridge was closed and the new
one opened. With the boom of Silicon Valley, the old bridge was turned
into a fishing pier and replaced side-by-side with a six lane causeway
and highrise bridge.
Now the cops ride BMW and Harley. Not everything is progress!
Have a nice loop day.
