Hi Ron,
As Tom mentioned, I wouldn't drill holes for reflectors in the fenders,
maybe instead opting for a stick-on type or mounting them to a bracket
bolted up some place such as where the fender mounts to the fork sliders
in front and to grab rail bolts in the rear.
Signals wouldn't require drilling any pieces unique to the V700 either -
you could use the o.e. style brackets and mount just about any type of
signal you like then. Or use bar-end signals for a period look - that's
what I chose (Hella repros from Domiracer/Accessory Mart).
Sacrilege? No, now chopping a V700... While they are somewhat rare and
getting more so, a little personalization wouldn't hurt. Right out of
the crate many were changed to suit their owners. I personally like a
V700 with the Police fairing, leg shields and small metal saddlebags.
Too cool! Cheers,
Charlie

I'm gonna opt for painting in a traditional red-silver combination. As for paint color, is there a spec for the standard red/silver? If I vary for personal asthetics, I might use a brighter silver & redder (less orange) red. Also may opt for some pin striping on the fenders & tank than I've seen on early bikes. Do you ever see "correct" early V-700's with these added details??? My bike currently has no reflectors or turn signals and I could add these as well, primarily for safety... So how do you all feel about it....Is it really sacrilge to "jazz" up the paint work and add features from later years, or should I stick to PURE originality? |
