One thing to consider before purchasing replacement "crosses" is whether
or not you want to spend the time to remove the old crosses. My Dad
brought me an old worn out U-Joint this past weekend and - even after
being soaked in oil for years - it won't come apart easily. The caps on
the end of the crosses become rusted in place. I'm still working on it,
but it's not fun. Once I get it apart, I'm only going to use the splined
ends as tools. So, I could just cut it apart...but what would the fun in
that (and what would I learn)?

On the plus side, as long as you catch the impending failure soon enough
and the splines aren't trashed, replacing the crosses should get you
back in the saddle for less than half the price of a new one (even with
the $18 shipping charge).

 Karl,
this guy has them for sale fairly often, he is in Germany, and the
overseas shipping is exorbitant. cost me $38.00 to get wheel bearings
shipped from him. I was under the impression that moto international
had a source for these, probably Teo Lamers.
If you can find someone else that wants them or buy several for resale
you can cut the shipping "per unit" way down.

I saw these on Ebay. I did not know of any replacement U joints that
would fit the Loop Frame Yokes. I took a blown out unit down to a drive
train supply show and they went all through their books and could not
comr up with anything. Has anyone found any replacement for the loops ?

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions about the Eldo. I have been
too busy to try any of them out yet but am hoping to this weekend.
Weather here has been unseasonably warm so the spare time I had on MLK
day went toward riding rather than wrenching. I just wanted to say also
that I love this list. The recent stories about first guzzi's, and
other philosophical ramblings have been very interesting. Don't know if
any other list devoted to a machine would be like this but I think not.
I feel lucky to be able to find such a group of genuine people and am
really looking forward to the day when I can pull my loop into a rally
and meet some of you guys face to face.
