Looking at the prices for them now, I wish I still had mine. I think I had
about 3 grand in the motor alone. It was totaled in a wreck about 15 years
ago. Mine was a rag top with a ram air hood. I still remember the specks
on the motor

I destroked the 455 with a steel 400 crank to make it a 425 (faster rpms)
brass head gaskets for NOS
W 30 cams, elbrock 2 plane manifold, quadrajet 850cfm stage 2 carb, Olds
DRCE oil pan, Aries pistons 11 to 1 compression,

I even tricked out the TH400 trans, but I kept eating up the stall
converters, I finally found a rare variable pitch factory converter out of a
66 Delta 88 that would hold together. I miss that car. The insurance
company gave me 5800 for it. I then went out and bout a old BSA and then a
62 Triumph. I then found for the cost of one muscle car, I could have a
whole garage full of cool bikes. I swapped one addiction for another. I
still mess with old cars some. I am building a 62 Kaiser Jeepster Pick Up
now. My brother has a wrecked Mustang Cobra that I would like to pick up
and drop all the running gear into a 49 Ford Coupe. But until then, I've
got the Guzzi's to keep me busy but those big block Olds were great cars

Take care

Sorry for the non guzzi post, but I can't pass up saying 'hey' to
another former 70 442 owner. You'll have to pardon me for gushing about
it, I owned it while I was in high school. It was in the in-between age
then, too new to be a classic, too old to be considered cool by my
contemporaries. I loved it. I drove it for 7 years, 5 of them after it
was totaled. Thanks for listening.

You may also want to take the starter off and take it a auto parts store
and
have them bench test it. They can tell you how many amps it is pulling.
You could have a bad starter that only acts up when it is hot. I have
had
this happen before on a 70 442, I used to own.

Have you tried to push start it after it is hot & the starter fails ?

Welcome and congrats on the new/old loop. Did you strip down and clean
the
starter? If not, sounds like it could be the solenoid causing some
grief. Do
you have a relay feeding the solenoid? Could also be the starter button
itself. They are known for failing. Try turning the button with your
finger
and pushing it again.

Hi, all. I'm a new loop owner and new to this list. Picked up this '73
eldo in Oct, it had sat for a number of years but was in good physical
shape, no corrosion. Had to do some rewiring, replacement of rubber
parts (fuel lines, airfilter boot, etc), cleaned carbs & tank. Finally
got the engine started with the right plugs (NGK BP07ES's won't cut it
despite advice to the contrary). Problem is, after running for a bit,
enough to get hot, if I kill it or it stalls it won't turn over until it
cools down a bit. Hitting the starter just gets a "click" at the
regulator. After waiting 5-10 minutes it will turn over & start again.
Could this be a problem with the solenoid? I'm thinking that something
is getting stuck open when it gets hot, and electrically the only thing
that should be getting hot is that solenoid because its the only part in
the electric path that's mounted to the engine and would get hot when
running.

Anyone have any ideas, set me straight before I take a wrench to that
thing and start disassembling things and losing screws.
