As long as the talk has been concerning chokes or "enrichers":
Can anybody tell me that if you switch from the cable choke to the choke levers on the carb itself, if you can go half way, or can you set them at half choke, or is it an all or nothing thing? There are times in a good Pennsylvania chill that it would be nice to have a half choke position for a mile or two, and with my cable choke, it's all or nothing. Anyone out there have the levers on loop? Like em? Hate em? What's your opinion?

After putting in the timing chain tensioner, I loosened the alternator and gave it a half turn (it was all the way to one side) and choked it and held the gas open and cranked it and it started right up. My theory is that it was misstimed and that in conjunction with the loose timing belt was enough. I still don't know why it ran fine up until that point. I dropped the pan didn't find any loose rubber from the old chain tensioner, my guess is it has been missing for awhile (The bike is new to me) or else there is a big chunk hiding somewhere. I'll put a drop of oil on the advance too just in case. Thanks all Ted Ward ----- Original Message ----- From: . ...I had a similar problem with an old FIAT I had many years ago. After much weeping and gnashing of teeth the problem was fixed with a drop of Olive Oil on the distributor cam. The mechanical advance was sticking and throwing the timing off to various degrees. Good Luck!! ...Vince in NY..... . . Ted Ward wrote:
