Well, stripped the old girl down today to locate this annoying oil leak that
was making my garage look like a HD rally (just joking here for those die
hard HD folks ). Found some lovely PO syndrome going on behind the flywheel.
Seems to correctly tighten a bolt you have to go till it snaps and then
leave it in there! The bolt in questions was on the large breather tube and
it was spewing oil every time I started her up. Clutch would work fine once
it was cleaned but would start slipping and eventually become grabby. So a
quick trip down to the store for some new bolts and everything is now
tightened like it should be. While in there, I decided to replace the rear
main seal and check on the two bolts at the bottom of the rear main bearing.
They had some sort of sealant on them, but it was some kind of grayish
nastiness. Cleaned the threads out and put some fresh silicone sealant on
them and tightened them back up. Decided on installing my Ram clutch
(Elvira's clutch) instead of the new 4mm setup I have, as I wanted to see
just how great this clutch setup is. If it's all it's said to be I might
just have to sell the 4mm set and save some more pennies to get me another
Ram for Elvira. Now it's just a matter of putting back the battery tray,
remount the fender to it and mount the starter and I will be ready to test
it out. That will be a job for tomorrow.
