Hi Greg,
I really like the funky old 4 spd. too. Hope to have both 4 and 5 spd.
equipped Loops to compare with one another at some point.
The 4 spd. can require "special" tools to remove and install the clutch
hub. I used a Snap-On pitman arm puller to remove mine as it was a very
tight fit. To reinstall it I first tried a length of all-thread in
through the clutch pushrod hole with a vast assortment of washers,
spacers and bushings. But the all-thread couldn't take the tension and
snapped (maybe finely threaded drill rod would have been a better
choice). So I ended up putting the transmission in my press and
finishing the job using some old sockets and a worn out clutch hub.
Lotsa' fun! Cheers,

Hi Ted, |
As for needing the special tool, someone else will have to chime in. I - for one - have the "far superior" 4-speed transmission that uses a simple little snap ring to keep the clutch hub in place. :> Personally, I have my own little conspiracy theory about Guzzi using the four-pin nut on subsequent transmissions just to sell more special tools. |
