Greg,
Thanks for the info on the seals. You are probably right. I will do it
right and replace the seals. I am also planning on pulling the heads
(gasket was leaking anyways) and checking on the valves, piston rings
and cylinder walls. Not sure if I should take the bottom end apart..
Do the valve guides have a seal on the top? I checked in a parts catalog
and did not see anything there...

Hi Gunnar, I've been following some of the threads you've had on Wild Guzzi...good to have you here, too. Great website!...and thanks for the link to my site. As others have mentioned those pictures will come in handy. I noticed that you mentioned that that oil was at least 20 years old, but that you weren't planning to replace the seals. If the seals are also at least 20 years old (and I assume that the bike hasn't been ridden in that long, either), then I would highly recommend that you replace the seals. If you don't, I predict that they are dry and that you will have to go back in and replace them later. How do I know this? :> Anyway, you look to be having lot's of fun. I wish you the best and really envy the smile you'll have on your face when you get finished. Gunnar Schwede wrote:
