Steve, except for the crank and pistons, 4 spd on Ambo -5 spd on Eldo, there is also a difference in gearing between the Eldo-5spd and Ambo-4spd rear ends. The eldo should have a 6 bolt sump on the bottom of the pinion housing and the Ambo should not have a sump.

Other than some other small variations, they are virtually identical.

Enjoy,
Matt

Thanks for the suggestions, that will give me somewhere to start on. I did drain the oil/gas mix to change for straight oil in the Eldo. I'll go through the carbs Bob and thanks for the tip about 1 at a time. As to the Ambassador I'll reset the timing, "d'oh" even a rookie like me should have done that first! Both have VHB carbs, guess I'll be needing about 4 rebuild kits and some in-line filters, gaskets etc., I'll do all you suggested and then I'm sure I'll be back with more problems. On the Ambo I re-set the valves at .15 intake/.25 exhaust, they are on the loose side and clattering nicely.
and for Gary, you were right, I started the Eldo with the rear wheel off and put it in gear I can both hear and feel "clunking" from the drive line right near the u-joint, guess that will be coming up in the near future.
Does anyone know if I can switch the entire drive line from the Ambassador over to the Eldo without major headache's? The Eldo engine is in much better shape as is the chassis if I could get one bike out of the two running then I would be a lot happier while working on the other. In either case it looks like I have some carb work to do first. I'll get on the line to MG cycle Monday and get me some implements of destruction.
