Just a warning about 30 year old brake springs. About 30 miles into a ride
Saturday, one of the return springs on the rear brake shoe broke & wedged
itself in the webbing of the shoe & the wheel hub. The rear wheel momentarily
locked up & broke free fours times before I could get stopped, I'm really glad it
did not happen while leaned over in a turn. We pulled the rear wheel, removed
the offending spring pieces & I was able to ride home without a rear brake. I
would especially hate for this to happen to the race bike, so as a
precautionary step I'm going to replace all the brake springs on it & the street bike.
