I don't know about the length issue, but I've heard of guys using
all-thread of the appropriate length and diameter, with acorn nuts on
each end. It's not original, but will certainly work and look great. If
you use standard (not metric) sizes, I'm sure the prices will be a lot
cheaper. I've not checked, but I bet metric fasteners of that type and
size will be a lot more expensive.
