I have two distributors from '73 Eldos. Both have the combination a 6
coil and an 8 or 9 coil (can't remember) spring on the weights. The
replacement sets appear to contain an 8 and a 9.

I think the early advance spring sets had one spring with a long, empty
loop on one end. In the lower part of the rpm range, all the work was
carried by the other spring. Once you got to a certain rpm, the end of
this loopy spring was finally engaged and now both springs were
involved. It allowed for a quicker advance at lower rpms and then a
shallower further advance toward higher rpms.

The newer sets simply use two springs of differing tensions. Thus, the
advance curve is more linear, or in this case, actually more curved than
angle stepped as above. I think the newer springs are a better design.
