You might not hear it on the center stand because there is no actual
load on the tranny at that point. Could be that under load something is
binding inside. Worth checking out.

Could be, but I can't figure why it wouldn't make noise while I'm shifting on the center stand, but it only makes noise when I'm actually driving it. Sounds like a playing card in the spokes of a bicycle. _____ From: Ian Adkins [mailto:ianad-@linkamerica.net] Sent: Monday, July 05, 2004 10:03 AM To: Loopfram-@topica.com Subject: RE: Weird sound when shifting Your free subscription is supported by today's sponsor: ------------------------------------------------------------------- Apply now for a No-Annual-Fee Discover(r) Platinum Card 0% Intro APR*, No Annual Fee, Up to 2% Cashback Bonus(r) award* Start Saving Today - APPLY NOW! I would pull the tranny and have a look inside. Easy enough to do (even though it is a pain to have to pull the engine...again) but the cost of a new tranny or components makes it imperative to investigate. -----Original Message----- From: Christian, Tom [mailto:tchri-@finetre.com] Sent: Monday, July 05, 2004 8:48 AM To: Loopfram-@topica.com Subject: RE: Weird sound when shifting Your free subscription is supported by today's sponsor: ------------------------------------------------------------------ Get a FREE Mortgage Quote from Mortgage War. FREE TRIAL: http://click.topica.com/caacpgGb1dfltb7vjN1b/ExpertCity ------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello everyone. I did a jury rig repair of the forward layshaft nut which had chewed through the transmission case. After I reinstalled my transmission, it seems to shift fine when on the center stand, but when I ride it, it makes a grinding noise when I try to shift (as it passes through neutral), or even just moving from first into neutral and coasting. The sound isn't constant, just every few seconds. The other symptom is the neutral light now stays on constantly. Anybody got any ideas?
