Dave,
I had to beat on mine a bit, as well as use the wedge in the pinch bolt
and sprayed JB Blaster abundantly. I used a dead blow hammer and blocks
of woods to bang against. The dead blow, even when being gentle, is so
much more effective than any regular hammer.
When finally disassembled, I used a scrubber pad (3m, paint supply
store) to clean it all up inside the tree. Went back together nicely, no
hammers required. I gave the stem and new lower bearing to my machine
shop guy, rather than hammer. Someday, I'll buy a press.

Looked like an iffy day for a ride here in the Pac NW, so I thought I'd work on my forks...new seals, bearings and springs. Everything was moving right along until reassembly. Just can't seem to get the tubes past the pinch area in the lower triple tree. I have the plug-on-a-stick tool and I hammered a screwdriver in the pinch area to open it a bit. Still no go. I know I must be overlooking something simple, but for the life of me can't see it. Where am I going wrong? I know someone out there has that magic tip. TIA, Dave in Oregon 70 Ambo |
