Ian,
I don't have any experience with alternatives to new piston/cylinder
sets, but I have had to make the decision a couple of times before. If
you don't have a good set of pistons, I don't see how you can beat buying
the new sets. I got to believe that it will cost you more to buy new
pistons and re-sleeve. Even though I don't have any personal experience,
I have heard some horror stories about the reliability of sleeved
cylinders. I'll bet there are some guys on the list who might have had a
good experience though. I was thinking about maybe using somebody like
Bore Tech to replate the cylinders. I just checked their website and they
say prices start at $195.00 (per cylinder?) for replating in chrome or
nikasil.
The last I checked, you could buy new piston/cylinder sets from MG Cycle
for $550.00 . These are Gilardoni sets with Nigulsil plated bores. They
should hold up better than the originals. Expensive, but I don't know of
a better option. I have ordered sets from Agostini's in Mandello too.
They are usually even less expensive, but with the current exchange rate,
I doubt whether they are cheaper than MG.
My 2 cents.

Here they are. I am rebuilding my Police Eldo and I have a set of cylinders that came with the bike. I had them mic'd and they were about 2 thousands worn. The pistons were shot. I was thinking that I might explore the option of having the cylinders resleeved and install new pistons and rings. Anyone ever done this before? What about the difference in cost? Part of me says to just take out a loan and get a new set but the other sees re-using the cylinders as something that is good. As always I am seeking the advice of th wise, experienced and knowledgeable. Thanks for the advice in advance...Ian =========================================================== Cancel your low-carb diet. Lose weight. Choose your own foods.
