I got my 72 Eldo sans keys.a locksmith made me an ignition key OK, but couldn't find a blank for the tool boxes. So I drilled them out[that act cost me a ton].
Knock the pins out of the tool box hindges, MG Classics has a source for keys.
Send them the locks and they'll do the rest.
I got my locksets from Italy,Steering lock and two tool box locks--$100.00 plus.
| Hi, listers.. I'm new to this board, but in looking through the archives, I see many names from the "old" Guzzi list, and several people I've met at various Guzzi happenings. I just "saved" a 73 Eldo from an ignoble death in an airplane hanger, where it had been sitting since '83 with her jugs off. I'm not ready to start a restoration, yet, have to finish my current project, but need to at least think about what I should be looking for. So. The original owner said he'd just put $1600 in it, rode it to Arkansas and back, but it was burning oil, so he pulled cylinders to get them rechromed. He'd put a new clutch, U joint, rear end, rebuilt the front end, etc. Uh, Ace.. that was 20 years ago! He said he might have some stuff that's obviously missing. My guess is that it wouldn't be worth getting from him, and he's hard to contact. But, if any of this stuff is made out of unobtainium, I'll give it a try. To my seriously untrained eye, here's what I need: (1) Key. Is this a problem? (2) headers/mufflers (3) Headlight. It had a windjammer on it, and he'd bent the ears over, and cobbled the fairing on there. ;) (4) The taillight is rectangular, I *assume* this is not the right one.. (5) One head is missing the threads for the exhaust nut. Repair or Replace? I have a machine shop, could do it if I have to. (6) The tach needle is pointing to 4K except the pointer is broken off. (7) I don't think the left hand controls are original, look Japanese to me. Clutch cable is missing. (8) It's a ahem lovely shade of red and creme, again I *assume* it should be either black or white? As you can see, I don't know much about what I have here, and would appreciate a little guidance, except for "get your head examined!" I already know I'm nuts. :) Cheers!
