Don't panic on your Eldo brakes. You can spend a lot of time and $$ seeking a great stopping Eldo ... but it's not gonna happen. Just replace the 2LS front brake linings with a softer compound and have them radiused to your drum. Then make sure the glaze on the drum surface is broken with emery paper. Adust the heck out of it, ride it for a while, adjust again, and enjoy. My Eldo long suffered from very poor stopping although I had shoes from a reputable Goose supplier. Finally, I found real old fashioned brake shop locally. For $26 he bonded new linings to my shoes and radiused them to my drum. Result: Good stopping with no squealing. It does not stop like my LeMans 1000 or the Stone, but not too bad for a 31 year old bike. Jack Lundberg Colorado Springs, Colorado '72 Ambasador, '73 Eldo, '86 LeMans 1000, '03 Stone |
