Some riders use wind deflectors that fit inside the front crash
bars, leaving a small exit for the exhaust headers. The deflector keeps
both your engine and your legs warm by letting the cylinders sit in a
pocket of undisturbed air. I don't know of any available for purchase,
but it's easy to fabricate out of whatever material you like (except
duct tape please).
Cold air is dense by comparison, so it takes less of it. In
colder air your engine is running lean. You could raise the needle by
one notch, which would enrich the mixture for any level of throttle.
Too rich and you'll foul the plugs or get some unburned fuel into your
exhaust. BANG!
I've never tried it, and if my theory is off, I am sure to be
corrected. If it's right, then your bike should run a little faster in
the cold air with this set up.
OR you could sit in the garage with a Hot Toddy sans cider and
imagine your flying down US 1, drifting back and forth from Key Largo to
Key West.

Gary,
First off, I think you're nuts to ride when it's that cold; I
admire
that about you.

Second, my '71 Ambo doesn't run well below about 45 F. I assumed
it
wasn't able to warm up properly and that was just natures way of
telling
me to take the truck. Do you make any adjustments for 'cool'
weather
riding?
Rob
