Morning,
But, it has made me think about a few things pertaining to my '72 Eldo
(VIN # 52069):
1. It said in the book that there was a problem of sorts with the 1st
year production of the 5-speed transmissions, and that some (i think it said
1500) models had been repaired with a new/updated trans. The new/repaired
trans would have a number "3" stamped by the tranny filler plug and/or near
the speedometer drive. Mine doesn't appear to have the
"3"................so, i am wondering what all was done to the new/updated
trans and if it can be done to mine?
The shift return spring may have been a little tougher and there was a
collar inside the tranny that held a bearing in place. They went to holding
it down with three bolts instead of two, I think.
2. The book doesn't mention a dual gauge dash on the 1st year
Eldo's...........was that an option maybe? or perhaps a previous owner just
tossed it on there in place of a broken/missing original single gauge dash?
The PO likely preferred the single speedo and changed it. By the way...my
White Eldo has "3" stamped in the tranny and has tach/speedo cluster. Serial
number is 52048.
3. Is there a way/listing to determine what number my Eldo was in the
assembly sequence? All i have is what is stamped on the VIN plate: Jan -
1972, Engine No 52069, Frame No 52069
Just curious if there is a way to figure out when/where/how/etc
Eldos began their lives as 50xxx and ended at 64xxx? If the first was
50001 then there would have been 14,000 built. Does that sound
plausible....4 to 5 thousand built a year?
