The small pin(on the end of the screw) is used to push the rivet out
from the inside of the steering head. Better used when bearings are out
of steering head.
Turn the screw in just enough to get the tool inside the steering head.
Holding the long handle, move the tool around to find a rivet hole, the
rivets are shorter than the steering head is thick, so there will be
"hole" that you can feel with the pin-end of the tool. Once you find a
hole, keep the tool in position and slowly turn the screw out. The
wingnut on the tool will come to rest on the wall of the steering head
directly opposite the rivet. As you continue to advance the screw, the
screw will put enough force on the rivet to push the rivet out of it's
hole. When the rivet is far enough out you can pull it out the rest of
the way with your fingers. You may want to use tape on the rivet, they
are real small and get lost easily on a garage floor.
If none of this makes sense, I will be in MI tomorrow afternoon, I'm
heading toward Traverse City. My cell phone no is 843-412-6516, maybe I
can drop by where you are.
