Ray:
Be aware that the official Guzzi version (steel flywheel) used on many
03 Cal series has been showing a tendency to fail, and are being
replaced under warranty by the old-style two-plate clutch.
That said, the aluminum version of the RAM clutch used on the Rosso
Mandello and many later spine frames has seemed to be plenty durable
(or at least I've heard no reports otherwise).
My guess is the difference in reliability (and it's just a guess at
this time) is due to the self-adjusting nature of the hydraulic clutch
actuator (versus a cable on the Cal series) on the spine frames.
Thus, if you do go with the RAM, I recommend also going with the
hydraulics.

All this talk of clutches has me thinking about what to buy as I reassemble my Eldo. Greg explained some differences between the Sureflex and RAM. Has anyone had experience with the RAM clutch? I'd like to hear from you. Thanks Ray |
