You'd think that I'd be able run a computer by now wouldn't you. I've
spent a good portion of the last 15 years or so of my career in front of
the damn things and I still don't look before I hit send. My apologies.
To compound my transgressions, I'll ask a dumb question. At least its
loop related. My brother wants to put a 5 speed tranny in the Ambo I
built for him. I'm on the trail of a transmission out of a '78 SP1000.
This should work right? IIRC, The clutch hubs are the same, the mounting
points are compatible, and the driveshaft/U joint is a bolt-up. The
clutch cable will have to be altered, right? I guess I can check out
Guzziology when I get home, but I bet a few of you guys have done this.
He has a few problems with the current 4 speed set-up. He's running a 5
speed rear end, so the overall gearing is low and he is revving pretty
hard a highway speeds. The speedo drive in the trans is chewing up
pinions. He got a set of aftermarket floorboards and controls for a 5
speed that will require some fabrication to adapt to the 4 speed. A 5
speed tranny will solve all that. Anybody else have one they want to
sell?
