Hi,
If you'll indulge me one more time.
Ok, the plunger inside the oil relief valve has a hole drilled thru it.
I asked whether this hole needed to be placed any way in particular and
whether there really needed to be shims inside the cap.
Several people answered that they had seen these units with zero shims.
I'm willing to take that and when I start the motor, I'll run some oil
pressure tests.
As to the hole in the plunger, no one seemed to know. I quizzed two
non-list members who are Guzzi mechanics and they both said that they
believed the plunger spins in the valve, so the hole placement didn't
matter.
To be honest, I do not remember how it came apart. None of my reference
books deal with this very well and I was not anticipating anything fancy
when I took it apart. My intent was simply to clean it and reassemble.
The parts book shows what it calls a bottom plate, probably the shim.
Dave mentions the valve in Guzziology but no talk of any no-shim units
or plunger placement.
If you're curious, as I obviously am (just can't help it), and have some
time to look, I've placed a digital pic on one of my website pages.
Scroll to the bottom and you'll see it. If this looks familiar to you
and you have an opinion, I'd love to hear it. Thanks.

Moving on to other topics now (thank goodness) but will post anything
else I may learn for the communal pot.
By the way, I noticed a topic in the archives about con-rod oil holes.
If it helps the survey, mine ('73 Eldo) does not have the holes. It does
however have two completely different style pistons, although same size.
More on that later as I learn.
