Hi Mike,
Here's a few ideas to try:
- Clean the shoes and drum thoroughly and then scuff both to break any glaze.
- Grease the brake "cams" where they contact the shoes lightly.
- Slightly bevel the edges of the shoes at a 45* angle.
- Clean rust from and paint the springs.
The purpose of each of these is to help eliminate vibration of the components. Vibration = noise. I've never tried the bevel tip, usually a good cleaning and greasing takes care of it. After riding most of the last five days in the rain, my o.e. brakes are squealing ocassionally - since it's time for a tire anyway, I'll do my usual routine while I'm at it. Hope this helps!
