Hi,
I took apart and cleaned the oil pressure relief valve today on my '73
Eldo. Guzziology mentions this having thin shims inside to set the
spring load. Mine has none. Should I be concerned? I did ride the bike
but only about 20 miles before tearing it down and didn't think to run
an oil pressure test. There's a lesson for the next time.
Also, at the bottom of the valve there is a small diameter hole going
crosswise through the plunger. This lines up with the cutaway in the
housing. Is there a proper alignment for this hole? It's drilled in a
groove machined into the plunger. Certainly it is for oil but is the
direction of the hole important? Should I be able to see it (the hole)
through the cutaway or should it be hidden by the housing?
Thanks
Ray
PS Both main bearings and rod bearings are within spec. Had the crank
polished and waiting for new rod bearings to arrive. Old ones
significantly marked probably from sitting so long. Speedo only shows
29k and I'm beginning to believe it now that everything is torn down and
looking so unused inside. Cam also shows some "sitting too long" marks.
Ride 'em, boy and girls.
