Hi, Bob. I responding to both of your emails at once.
You don't need to drill your twist grip out much to
stabilize the cable end - a few mm's will do. What you
did to the cable end sounds like a good move to me - I
would have done the same if I had the tools. Also, the
area where the chain is should be packed with grease,
a tad of which will work its way down to continually
lube the cable end.
The aluminum cable ends (split-type that fit on your
existing cable) I got from a little shop called Geiger
Enterprises, in Quakertown, PA. Their phone number
used to be 215-529-7248. You would have to describe
what you want to them and provide them with the ID of
the end that the cable goes into and the OD of the end
that goes into the grip. I think you would do better
to look for a shop that makes cables in your area -
some old Brit bike shop or such. [Next tim3e my cable
breaks I may do the same, and see if they can make me
a cable with teflon lining (ala BMW) or a plactic
liner (ala Honda).]
No, I never feel like trading my pasta in on rice!
I've had 3 hondas and 2 yamahas, the latter where
constant trouble, and the hondas weren't perfect
either. The Ambo needs work now and then, but it is
simpler to work on then the Japanese stuff, and the
hardware is bigger and more sturdy.
Re: the Breva, I don't like a bike that's too smooth.
My Ambo has just the right amount of engine vibration
- even my BMW-riding brother says so. If I am too
isolated from the bike I don't feel like i am
interacting with it. (I have an acquaintance who
recently traded in his R1150rt for a Harley - he said
the Beemer was sooo refined it was not like riding a
cycle.) This brings a question to my mind: I have
always wondered if the bigger displacement guzzis -
SP's and the like - vibrate more then does my Ambo.
Anyone?
-Mike (69 Ambo)
