I put flip chokes on my early VHB 29's a few years
back, and they work fine. As I recall, I needed to
grind a little off of the bottom of the new choke. It
was either that or drill out the top of the hole that
the coke fits into, and I figured it would be better
to mess up the choke then the carb. There was a
protrusion on the bottom of the choke, a ring that is
supposed to fit into the passage that the brass
plunger fits into, that will not fit on the early
carbs. Remove this protrusion and they fit fine.
But perhaps I am not remembering all the details. It's
beena while.

"also, he says that the 'flip top chokes' will NOT
work on early vhb-29's without modifications to the
choke assemblys. the early type [ambo's and early
eldo's] can be identified by a lack of an o-ring near
the top of the choke slide, where the cable goes
through. mine do not have it, and i wonder if the bike
is running with the chokes partly open [Guilly's bike]."
